Make Peace Your Goal

The deadline for the 2015 Millennium Development Goals is fast approaching, and the world must now decide on a new development agenda. We are asking you to join us and make peace a goal by voting for “protection against crime and violence” as a priority on the next development agenda.

Why we need to make peace a goal?

Freedom from conflict and violence is the most fundamental human right and essential for the development of societies and individuals. Without protection against violence and crime, other development objectives such as education, health and equality cannot be obtained. To date, peace has not been included on the development agenda, nor considered an objective or goal. Yet when we track the progress of the MDGs we see not one single fragile or conflict affected country has achieved any of the goals. It is only when we make peace a goal that we can start to apply the resources necessary to attaining it.

Why YOU are so important in making peace a goal?

Peace is still a grey area for many governments, and we are extremely concerned that it will be left out of the development agenda, as it has been in the past. We need you to make your voice heard by making “freedom from crime and violence” a priority on the MY WORLD platform. If we all speak up and demand peace becomes a goal on the post-2015 development agenda, then we can ensure the pursuit of freedom from violence becomes a universal objective.
